The mission of BEA at Peace Abortion Doulas is to train volunteer doulas to provide compassionate, human-centered assistive care to patients who have an abortion.

Doula-led care is a common health care practice in many cultures outside of the United States. Many of these cultures recognize the importance of non-licensed health care professionals playing an active role in the provision of health care for their community. Before we had doctors and nurses, we were cared for by our midwives and doulas. Doulas not only help tend to the physical ailments an individual experiences, but their emotional nebulous as well. When our psychology is impacted, so is our overall wellbeing and ability to heal our physical body.

For centuries, patriarchy and supremacy have waged a war on reproductive bodies, and this
attack has only become more and more hostile since the fall of Roe v. Wade. Instead of
recognizing abortion as a legitimate, safe, and necessary health care service, it has been used
as a political weapon by extremists to justify their hate and need to be in control of bodies
dissimilar to theirs. Because extremists have maliciously corrupted the sanctity of religious
teachings to deceive their neighbors into hating one another, those who seek abortion care are
met with shame, stigma, and barriers to accessing this essential health care service.

The vision of BEA at Peace Abortion Doulas is to reduce the shame and stigma associated with

receiving abortion care by training organizations to build volunteer Doula programs that are
compassionate and human-centered.  We envision a future in which patients can access any
type of health care without shame, and be met with kindness, humility, and love.
